De ultieme wandeling langs de kust van de Algarve: van oost naar west door prachtige landschappen is een zelfgeleide wandeltocht door enkele van de meest spectaculaire kustscenario's van de Algarve. Je zult zien dat er nog steeds plekken zijn met meer flamingo's dan toeristen, en waar eeuwenoude tradities deel uitmaken van het dagelijks leven. Tavira, Portim\u00e3o en Lagos zijn de centra van onze fantastische wandel- en sightseeingtour.<\/p>\n

In de rustige kuststreek Oost-Algarve, kunnen afgelegen stranden zich kilometers ver uitstrekken zonder dat er iemand te bekennen is, en het natuurreservaat Ria Formosa wemelt van de vogels en het zeeleven; toeristische activiteit is ondergeschikt aan de natuur en het werk van vissers en schelpdierkwekers.<\/p>\n

De eerste uitvalsbasis van de tour is Tavira, in de Oost-Algarve. De stad combineert charmante geplaveide straatjes met bloemrijke balkons met de visserij aan de rivieroever. Het kasteel, de talrijke witgekalkte kerken en de elegante herenhuizen bieden cultureel belang, terwijl het 13 kilometer lange strand, over de kwelders van het natuurpark Ria Formosa, een ontspannend en rijk scenario cre\u00ebert, bezaaid met kleurrijke traditionele vissersboten.<\/p>\n

De westkust van de Algarve geeft zich over aan de kracht van de Atlantische Oceaan. Meer bevolkt dan het andere uiteinde, hier wordt het landschap gevormd door klifpaden, vulkanische heuvels en dramatische kalkstenen hellingen. Deze diversiteit wordt aangevuld door de lokale flora en fauna die gedijt in de milde, zonnige winters en lange hete zomers.<\/p>\n

Portim\u00e3o, aan de oevers van de rivier de Arade, is de eerste basis in de West Algarve. Van oudsher een centrum voor het vissen en verwerken van sardines, tegenwoordig zijn de oude en eens zo bruisende vissersdokken van de stad opmerkelijk omgevormd tot een schilderachtige promenade die leidt naar de schilderachtige en met bomen omzoomde pleinen van de oude stad. Aangename autovrije winkelstraten omringen het gebied met een reeks historische gebouwen en een prikkelende selectie van caf\u00e9s, bars en restaurants.<\/p>\n

Vervolgens ga je naar Lagos, een stad die van oudsher een toegangspoort tot de Middellandse Zee was. Gil Eanes vertrok vanuit zijn brede baai omringd door het fijne zand van Meia Praia, de eerste die Kaap Bojador rondde; het was hier dat kapers zoals Sir Francis Drake zich verstopten, en waar galjoenen vol goud en edelstenen uit Amerika, of specerijen uit India, de haven binnenvoerden.<\/p>\n

Het stuk van de muur dat grenst aan de marginale (waterkant) is prachtig en in de oude stad vind je winkels, restaurants, veel geschiedenis en cultuur. Last but not least komt Lagos 's nachts tot leven met straatartiesten en bars voor elke smaak met livemuziek.<\/p>\n
