Rabelo boats in Douro River, One of the most popular symbols of Porto is the Rabelo boat.

Highlights of this wonderful city include the formidable Porto cathedral, the Torre dos Clérigos and the famed Port wine lodges that dominate the hillside of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Porto offers a compelling synthesis of ancient and contemporary attractions and it is a delight to stroll gently through its diverse landscape.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Porto

On arrival at Porto Airport, we will have a private coach transfer to our centrally located hotel. Depending on our arrival time, we’ll have an orientation walk before dinner at a restaurant close to our hotel.

Day 2 – Orientation Walk, River Trip – Port Lodge Visit

Today we’ll discover Porto, starting with an orientation walk including a visit to S Bento Station to view the beautifully tiled panels, the Carmo church, Clérigos tower, the frontage of Lello bookshop, the cathedral then down to Ribeira for lunch.
In the afternoon we will visit a Port Lodge and enjoy a cruise along the Douro River.
Free time for dinner – not included.

Ribeira cafes in Porto river Douro estuary, relax in a street café along the riverside and admire the orderly rooftops of the Port wine cellars.

Day 3 – Castelo do Queijo Walk

The Fort of S. Francisco Xavier was built in the 17th century to protect the coast from the pirates of North Africa, it is located on a cheese-shaped rocky hill, thus the name Castelo do Queijo (Cheese Castle).
Our walk starts here and shadows the restless Atlantic all the way to the river Douro estuary.
After lunch, we will get back into town and then walk through the old town to visit the Stock Exchange (Palacio da Bolsa) followed by an optional visit to the S Francisco Church and the catacombs.
Free time for dinner – not included.

Castelo do Queijo Porto

Castelo do Queijo Porto, Cheese Castle is the popular name by which everyone knows the Fort SĂ£o Francisco Xavier. Why? It was built in the seventeenth century.

Day 4  – Departure

Transfer from hotel to Airport.
