Estendendo-se ao longo da fronteira sudeste de Portugal com Espanha, o Guadiana tem sido visitado por mercadores de longe desde cerca de 800 aC, atra\u00eddos pelas suas margens f\u00e9rteis e vasto potencial comercial, come\u00e7ando pelos fen\u00edcios, seguindo-se os cartagineses, os romanos e os Mouros.<\/p>\n

Hoje o rio j\u00e1 n\u00e3o serve rotas comerciais, mas as paisagens interessantes e encantadoras da regi\u00e3o e a riqueza hist\u00f3rica e patrimonial s\u00e3o um deleite para os visitantes.<\/p>\n

O nosso passeio ter\u00e1 in\u00edcio em M\u00e9rtola, conhecida como a \u201caldeia-museu\u201d, outrora capital do ent\u00e3o poderoso imp\u00e9rio mouro, e onde a hist\u00f3ria est\u00e1 gravada em camadas encantadoras.<\/p>\n

Daqui iremos a p\u00e9 at\u00e9 ao Pomar\u00e3o e \u00e0 Mina de S\u00e3o Domingos, onde Guadiana<\/a> vira para o interior em dire\u00e7\u00e3o ao noroeste. Tornou-se um porto movimentado no s\u00e9culo 19 como resultado de uma empresa brit\u00e2nica instalando uma mina 15 km ao norte. O min\u00e9rio era transportado por uma ferrovia da mina at\u00e9 Pomar\u00e3o, onde era carregado em navios e levado rio abaixo. O que resta da mina \u00e9 uma reminisc\u00eancia de uma paisagem lunar que n\u00e3o ficaria deslocada em nenhum set de filme de fic\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n

Est\u00e1tua do Contrabandista de Alcoutim<\/p><\/div>\n

Alcoutim \u00e9 outra base do nosso passeio, uma pitoresca aldeia virada para S\u00e3o Lucar na outra margem do rio, em Espanha. Embora menor que M\u00e9rtola, foi um importante porto fluvial nos tempos dos Fen\u00edcios.<\/p>\n

A partir daqui, faremos belos passeios pela natureza, incluindo o \u201cRio Drag\u00e3o Azul\u201d, como tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 conhecida a barragem de Odeleite devido \u00e0 sua forma peculiar.<\/p>\n

O Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana e as variadas paisagens ribeirinhas oferecem um ecossistema \u00fanico de matagais mediterr\u00e2nicos, afloramentos rochosos, tendo como pano de fundo pequenos terrenos agr\u00edcolas, \u00e1gua e moinhos de vento.<\/p>\n
